One of today's most acclaimed piano duos, Charles Owen and Katya Apekisheva are passionate advocates of the wide range of four-hands and two-piano repertoire.
In parallel with their extensive solo careers, they have been performing together worldwide and in the UK since 2001.
Their close collaboration stems from their inspiring teacher Irina Zaritskaya, whom they both studied with at the Royal College of Music. Their friendship dates back to a visit by students from the Gnessin School in Moscow to the Yehudi Menuhin School in Surrey in 1987. The pair made a name for themselves in 2016 with their first recordings for Quartz, featuring Stravinsky’s two-piano ballets, The Rite of Spring and Petrushka, which they dedicated to their teacher. Their second disc, released on Avie in January 2018, features Rachmaninov’s music recorded at Kings Place. Together, Charles and Katya are Artistic Directors and founders of the London Piano Festival, held annually at Kings Place.
