The Škampa Quartet is among the best Czech string quartets, representing their country in major concert halls around the world for 25 years.

Through their mentors, the legendary Smetana Quartet, their roots can be traced back to the earliest quartets in these lands, such as the Bohemian Quartet, which was described as the Conservatory of Europe in the 18th century and continues to be the cradle of European Chamber Music today.

They conducted research on the folk songs, poems, rhythms and dances from which local Czech music developed, and they are among the rare Czech musicians who studied the quartet recordings of the valuable Czech composers Janacek and Smetana.

Their reputation has been further enhanced by awards in international competitions, prizes from the Royal Philharmonic Society and others, their first appointment as Resident Artist at the Wigmore Hall, and concerts at major festivals around the world, including the Prague Spring, Schwetzingen, Edinburgh, Schleswig-Holstein and Melbourne.

These concerts include collaborations with many internationally renowned artists such as Melvyn Tan, Itamar Golan, Josef Suk, Michael Collins, Kathryn Stott and Janine Jansen.

They teach at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where they are appointed as guest lecturers in chamber music and have regular programmes on BBC radio.
